Best Solution to a Gloomy Day

Do you ever get to work and discover you are in a colossally bad mood for no good reason at all? Yesterday was that day for me. Between work stress and wedding logistics, I was pretty wound up by noon. The kind of wound up that can only be cured by getting the heck out of my office for lunch hour. As usually, I had a chicken breast and broccoli meal waiting for me in the office kitchen, but literally nothing sounded worse than heating that up and eating at my desk. As I am doing something a little different with my dietary habits as of late (more on that soon) I needed to find something clean. Pretty much the only thing near my office to fit the bill is sushi. Being about 2 blocks from Chinatown, the options were plenty.

I strolled down H St between 6th and 7th looking for a good place to sit down for some quality sushi. After a few restaurants with greasy noodle dishes in the window that don't exactly fit in with my clean diet, I came across Wok N Roll. I remembered from reading Christopher Buckley's Washington Schlepped Here (which I HIGHLY recommend, especially if you can get it in audio format) this location had something to do with the Lincoln Assassination. Well, not the Chinese restaurant but the boardinghouse that used to reside at this address. Despite the ominous history, the fun sushi pictures in the window sold me. After walking in and grabbing a seat I experienced a strong sense of dejavu. Although a theory on reincarnation might make this blog posting a little more interesting, I will disappoint you with the admission that I have probably stumbled across this place in a hunt for sushi before.

After my highly satisfying lunch of a rainbow tuna roll (mmmmmm) I headed back to the office to finish out the day. As I was walking down 6th on the East side of the Verizon Center, I came across a group of very oddly dressed adolescents. This is not particularly unusual as Chinatown has become the hangout for the mischievous youths of DC. These kids however, looked notably different from the typical teenager playing hooky and harassing patrons. It wasn't until I almost cleared the block before I discovered the answer...

Of course!! Lady Gaga and her monsters! Now the bizarre eye makeup and ripped tights make sense. I debated with myself a few weeks ago about possibly attending this concert. Gaga is said to have epic shows and its been awhile since I attended a concert. Looking up the price of tickets quickly changed my mind. The cheapest ticket available started at $150. They went up from there all the way to $3000. THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS. When I repeated this to Mr. Gray he asked a highly inappropriate (yet hilarious) question regarding what accompanied a ticket at that price. Shoulda caught her at the 930 Club in '08 when she was just kinda famous and not crazy famous like she is now.

Operation chill out from crazy day accomplished. Now back to the grind...
